FAQ: Interviews
I have been invited to an interview. What should I expect on the day?
The day itself is fairly relaxed and is designed to help us find out more about you, and for you to find out more about the company - and hopefully confirm that Dorset Software is where you want to begin your career!
A small group of finalists or recent graduates is invited to each interview day. You are given a presentation to tell you more about the company and the work we do. You will also get the opportunity to speak to some of the team to see what they have worked on and what they think of life at Dorset Software.
We will provide lunch - please let us know if you have any dietary requirements so that we can arrange something suitable.
Each applicant will then be interviewed individually. There will be two interviewers and you can expect the interview to last approximately one hour. You won't be asked anything that you cannot answer as we just want to find out more about you, not try to catch you out.
Additionally, please let us know in advance if you need any reasonable adjustments to be made during any part of the recruitment process in order to submit your best possible application. Anything you tell us will be treated as confidential, and only used to support you in the process.
Will I have to do a test on the interview day?
No, we do not give you tests or exams when you come to interview. As we do not require previous IT experience it would be difficult to devise an appropriate test for you.
We also feel that the results of aptitude tests are unlikely to influence a decision of whether or not we make you a job offer.
If I come to an interview, do I have to pay for my travel?
When invited to interview we always reimburse you for the cost of your travel. You'll need to provide your receipt or a note of your mileage and our Finance Department will arrange payment by bank transfer.
Please note that we cannot reimburse your travel expenses if we do not have a valid VAT receipt or reasonable mileage.
I have to travel a long way to the interview, and cannot make it to your offices in time if I travel that morning. Where can I stay if I travel the day before my interview?
We are able to help with arranging and covering the cost of overnight accommodation. Please contact us well before your interview to discuss the options.
How often do you interview for graduate positions?
As we have an ongoing recruitment programme we normally have several interview dates lined up at any one time. Interviews can be held as little as once a month or as often as once a week.
