Amidst the chaos caused by the closure of Poole bridge last week two local companies, Dorset Software and Rockley Watersports, rallied together to ensure that George Osborne, Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer, could attend a meeting and get a flavour of Poole tourism. When a visit to Dorset Software Services By George Osborne and Robert Syms, MP for Poole was put in jeopardy due to the bridge closure, Peter Gordon, Managing Director of Rockley Watersports came to the rescue, to ensure a smooth transition and a trip round Poole Harbour as an added bonus.
George Osborne's visit to Dorset Software Services was part of the effort by the Conservative leadership to listen to and understand the issues facing businesses around the UK. He met with Dorset Software's management team and discussed the problems and opportunities of small businesses generally, and technology companies specifically, in today's competitive global marketplace. Jonathan Gerson, Founder and Managing Director of Dorset Software, was delighted that George Osborne had selected to visit his company. Jonathan observed, "George Osborne's visit to Dorset Software recognises the important role that small companies have to play in both the local and national economies".
George Osborne commented, "We want to make it possible for UK businesses to compete in the increasingly competitive world market. That's why I'm committed to visiting businesses around the country, and hearing the views of leading regional businessmen and women about how we can achieve our objective." He continued "I always learn something new and visiting Dorset Software was no exception. I saw how a Dorset technology company can successfully work with large public and private sector clients throughout the UK."
Robert Syms MP added, "I am very proud that Dorset Software and Rockley Watersports worked together to give George a taste of what Poole has to offer."
