A team of developers from Dorset Software is working with RM plc, the UK’s leading supplier of information and communications technology (ICT) to education, on its largest ever contract. Glow, formerly the Scottish Schools Digital Network (SSDN) is a five year contract worth £37.5 million from the Scottish Executive to provide a national education intranet which was won by RM in 2005.
Through the secure national intranet, Glow will offer every council, school, learner and teacher access to innovative technology tools. Some services on Glow (the SSDN) became available in September 2006 and all services are due online from April 2007.
The huge amount of work required to create Glow is already well underway, however, to ensure that the project is completed on time, RM needed to strengthen its development team. With no time for recruitment, RM required experienced, technically-capable temporary resources which were available immediately.
RM decided to use a team of experienced developers from Dorset Software. The developers are using a mainly Microsoft technologies including .NET, C#, SQL Server 2005, Reporting Services, BizTalk, Sharepoint and Active Directory.
